  • TWISTED HAIR PRODUCTIONS Behind the name …

The Twisted Hairs were chosen Native American’s who would travel across the Nation sharing stories and oral history amongst the First Nations people. They were recognised by a twist of hair upon their forehead. It was an honoured role, they were charismatic and beloved by all, especially the children who would greet them as they rode into the village on horseback.

THP has been a part my identity for over 20 years now, my children’s stories within my Friends of Feathertickle project are steeped in the Native American philosophy. I was born in NZ and growing up was fascinated by the Māori culture - giving me a strong affinity with many indigenous/native histories, mythology and symbology.

    MISSION/VISION

To encourage all participants to find their unique voice, to share their stories and inspire others to celebrate all that is unique, special and wonderful in our world. The Twisted Hairs’ - The Storytellers, this is what we do as entertainment practitioners.

  • Jane Thornton

Jane is the Creative Director/Producer of Twisted Hair Productions and a freelance Graphic Artist and Author.

She discovered her passion for acting and performing at high school, which led to working with U25 Theatre Group and Styx Performing Troupe where she trained comprehensively under Richard Hayes-Marshall (Le Coq) in physical theatre including character, mask and performance where she performed at many festivals on stilts as well as Commedia dell’arte and European Clown.

Jane also trained under many industry professionals in a variety of workshops including Roger Hodgman from The Melbourne Theatre Company and the National Theatre Drama School (VIC). She was a part of the script ensemble for Melbourne Writers Theatre.

Her CV includes numerous fringe productions at The Athenaeum, La Mama Theatre, Theatreworks and the Carlton Courthouse Theatre (VIC). She also had a variety of guest roles in TV dramas and comedy.

Jane and Belle met back in 2001 through their love of theatre and have been close friends since.

    Belle Power

Belle is a Performer, Author and Embodiment Coach for actors with many years’ experience in the Arts Industries as a Writer, Producer and Director of Theatre.

Her directing includes working with Neuro Diverse and protractile communities for multi-sensory interactive and physical theatre for public performance. (deaf/blind communities)

Her acting credits include working with Red Stitch Theatre, Playbox, La Mama and The Australian Shakespeare Company as well TV prime time productions including Sensing Murder (Channel7)

Her passion for bodywork saw her travel to the USA to work with Gabrielle Roth and Jonathan Horan to study the 5Rhythms, a transformational movement meditation practice.

Her drive to include embodiment teachings along with shamanic theatre practices has spurred her career forward in creating ritual theatre pieces to inspire and catalyse change and shift dynamics in rehearsal performance and the corporate workplace.

Belle is very excited to join forces with Jane to bring you this exciting workshop taster, their first under the Uki Moon Theatre arts collaboration.
